Texas Senate Passes Bail Reform

Texas Senate Passes Bail Reform

The Texas Senate has taken decisive action to strengthen public safety and reform our bail system. The Criminal Justice Committee heard several priority bills that take a comprehensive approach to keeping dangerous offenders off our streets, and after bringing them to a floor for a vote, these bills have now been passed by the Texas Senate!

SJR 1, known as Jocelyn’s Law, will require the denial of bail for illegal aliens accused of felonies, ensuring Texas stands strong in protecting its citizens—especially our children. This mirrors the Laken Riley Act recently passed by President Trump.

SJR 5 authorizes judges to deny bail for violent or sexual offenders, including human traffickers. Too often, habitual offenders secure release and commit more crimes—we cannot allow this to continue.

SB 9 strengthens our bail system by equipping judges and prosecutors with better tools to keep repeat, violent offenders behind bars. Public safety must come first.

SB 40 ensures that taxpayer dollars will never be used to fund bail bonds. Criminals should not benefit from the hard-earned money of law-abiding Texans.

Together, these measures send a clear message: Texas will not tolerate policies that put criminals ahead of victims. It’s time to restore law and order.
