Riverwalk Project Breaks Ground With Hospital

Since the proposed Presbyterian Hospital of Flower Mound received a green light on its site plan earlier this month from the town council, on October 8, developers, doctors, elected officials and residents alike celebrated at a groundbreaking ceremony at Chapelle des Fleurs, on Corporate Drive in Flower Mound.

The town’s first hospital will be built in the 158-acre River Walk at Central Park, a large mixed-used development designed to become Flower Mound's downtown. Doug Hawthorne, CEO of Texas Health Resources, attended the event with evident pleasure. “This is an exciting new adventure, and the success of this project really comes from the partnerships between the community, the doctors and the hospital,” he said. Dr. David May, a longtime Denton County cardiologist with offices in Lewisville, Denton and Flower Mound, also attended the groundbreaking for the hospital which is the first building to begin construction in the Five Star Development Company project. The day was a long time coming, according to May. “Many of us have been trying to get this hospital for about 15 years, and now people won’t have to leave town to get the care they need,” he said.

Texas Conservative Coalition Outlines Plan for Next Legislature

State Rep. Tan Parker (R-Flower Mound) and John Colyandro, executive director of the Texas Conservative Coalition (TCC), outlined the organization’s plans for the 81st State Legislature during a town hall meeting Wednesday at the Flower Mound Public Library.

Parker will be opposed by Democratic candidate Jesus Carrillo of Ponder and Libertarian John Turner of Flower Mound for the House District 63 seat to be determined by voters Nov. 4.

About 25 residents attended to hear Parker, who is a member of the TCC, and Colyandro detail a 10-point plan that includes making healthcare more affordable for families.

Texas Senator Jane Nelson and State Representative Tan Parker gathered at the Lantana Golf Club Tuesday evening for a voter registration drive to encourage Denton County Republicans to vote in the upcoming election. Senator Nelson stressed the importance of a turn-around in voting trends from Democrat votes back to Republican votes. Nelson recognized Denton County’s potential for Republican voters. With Denton’s rapid growth, its GOP turnout is crucial to the entire state. The Republicans hold both houses in the state legislature and a majority in Denton County.

Protecting Our Economic Prosperity is Job Number One

While the rest of our nation finds itself in an unfortunate economic downturn, Texas continues to push forward, bucking the national trend on our way to firmer economic footing. Before being elected your State Representative, I served as Chairman of the Texas Industrial Development Corporation, where job development and economic strategies were the top focus. As such, it pleases me to see Texas doing so well, but this also brings into focus the work necessary for Texas to preserve its economic vitality.

How well is Texas prospering? Consider that Texas added 47,700 new jobs in the month of June alone, our largest monthly gain in three years. We now have more Fortune 500 companies that call Texas home than any other state. Texas has the third highest gross state product, and is the nation's largest exporter. While other states are dealing with budget deficits, our sales tax revenue continues to grow. CNBC's 2008 ranking of America's Top States for Business placed Texas number 1, citing that our economy is growing four times as fast as the rest nation average. Additionally, Forbes magazine is singing Texas's praise, placing Austin, Houston, Dallas and San Antonio in its national top 10 listings of both recession proof cities and best cities to buy a home.

Tan Parker has lunch with seniors

Texas State Representative, Tan Parker joined the Flower Mound Seniors in Motion group for lunch in the Flower Mound Community Church at FM1171 and Glenwick Blvd. on Wednesday. Billed as a “Lunch and Learn” event, the group enjoyed sandwiches, salad, chips and dessert with the state rep before he began his presentation. Mr. Parker touched on several issues of accomplishment in 80th Legislative Session, which included making sure that the state’s $14 billion surplus was used wisely. He said the Texas economy is doing very well and several measures were put in place to reduce the property tax burden on homeowners. In addition, he said Denton County is the second fastest growing county in the country with over 500,000 residents and it continues to grow and prosper.

U.S. Supreme Court Upholds Election Integrity

On April 28th, the United States Supreme Court, by a 6-3 decision, ruled in favor of election integrity by affirming the constitutionality of Indiana’s photo identification law. In doing so, the Supreme Court rejected specific claims that requiring photo identification is an undue burden on individuals wishing to exercise their right to vote.

Less than two weeks after the Court ruled, Indiana held their primary election. Despite the fabricated claims of voter suppression that the Supreme Court categorically rejected, Indiana’s primary received record voter turnout numbers, and by all accounts, saw few complications arising from their photo identification law. What we can now take from this is the real life example that photo identification works to properly secure the sanctity of our election process without hindering voter turnout.

The Americas Foundation Essay Program focused on the United States Supreme Court this school year, and like the Argyle High School winners in the fall, Liberty Christian students rose to the challenge.

"We were very happy with this year’s group," program co-organizer Peyton Inge said. "Each year, the essays just get better and better."

The essay program is held at both Argyle schools each year and the topics revolve around various aspects of the U.S. government.

"I learned more about how vital the Supreme Court is to the establishment of this nation," senior Josh Talbot said. "We, as Americans, need to do a better job of honoring these people."

Texas Hospital Association Endorses Rep. Tan Parker for Texas House District 63

AUSTIN (February 27, 2008) – The Texas Hospital Association’s state political action committee, HOSPAC, has endorsed Rep. Tan Parker (R-Flower Mound) for Texas House District 63. One of the largest hospital associations in the country, THA represents more than 85 percent of the state’s hospitals and health care systems, which employ some 340,000 health care professionals statewide. The 33-member HOSPAC board makes endorsements based on a candidate’s position on health care issues and input from local hospital representatives.

Aerial refueling tankers are an integral mobility tool to ensuring that our Nation’s military forces can operate wherever they are needed around the globe. The Air Force has announced their plans to retire and replace more than 500 aerial refueling tankers that have served long past their intended lifespan. As a proponent of a strong military defense, I support all endeavors to provide our servicemen and women with state of the art tools necessary to defend our country.

Alongside my support for a strong military, I am also an advocate for the economic prosperity of Denton County, which stands to potentially benefit from the Air Force's refueling tankers program. It is estimated that $40 billion dollars will be invested in this replacement project, making the financial implications a critical factor for officials at the United States Air Force to consider when awarding a supplier contract this February.

Parker Seeks Second Term In Office

District 63 state Rep. Tan Parker has filed with the Republican Party to seek re-election to his second term in office.

Parker, 36, said that because he works in both the business and political worlds, he has a unique perspective about challenges Texans face and possible solutions to those problems.

“My background gives me insight into the challenges of a working family,” he said. “I know what it takes to pay a mortgage or raise a family or pay medical bills. I encounter those problems as well.”

In 2006, Parker was elected to his first term after defeating Anne Lakusta by 48 votes in a Republican runoff. He ran unopposed in the 2006 general election.

Illegal immigration tops town hall discussion

Texas Representative Tan Parker, R-District 63, said illegal immigration is the top concern in Texas right now, and at Tuesday’s town hall meeting at the Flower Mound Public Library, the issue dominated the conversation.

About 35 people attended Parker’s meeting where he discussed accomplishments during the last legislature and goals for the upcoming session.

Illegal immigration was the most-discussed topic, and Parker and his staff highlighted the discussion with a nine-point plan of how to curb the growing numbers.

(Austin) - On Friday, September 28th, Speaker Tom Craddick (R - Midland) appointed Rep. Tan Parker (R - Flower Mound) as joint presiding officer of the Health and Human Services Eligibility System Legislative Oversight Committee.

"Health and Human Services issues were at the forefront of the debate during the last session, and the 80th Legislature made some major strides to improve our health care system in Texas," Speaker Tom Craddick said. "Nevertheless, there is always more that can be done, and it is imperative that we ensure the efficiency and functionality of our eligibility system. Rep.
