(Flower Mound, TX) - State Representative Mary Denny today announced her endorsement of Denton County businessman and Republican leader Tan Parker in the April 11 run-off. Denny, who currently serves as representative for this district, announced in December that she would not seek re-election.
“Now that we are down to the runoff, there's only one solid conservative with a record of Republican leadership, and that's Tan Parker. Today, I'm proud to offer my wholehearted endorsement of Tan and encourage my supporters to vote for him on April 11. He ran a strong, grass-roots campaign based on reducing property taxes, reforming public education, and standing firm for faith and family. I know we can trust Tan to stay true to his conservative convictions and represent all areas of the district in Austin,” Denny said in making the endorsement.
In accepting the endorsement, Parker said “Mary Denny has represented this district with honor, dignity and integrity, and I am humbled to have earned her support. She is a true pioneer in the Denton County Republican Party, having built this party from the ground up for almost thirty-five years. Her service to our citizens, and her leadership on behalf of conservative principles, will never be forgotten, and I will do my best to carry on her legacy of effectively representing this district.”
Parker led the field in last week's five-way Republican primary, despite a late-start against several prominent and well-known community leaders. Parker, a Regional Vice President for Computer Sciences Corporation's (CSC) Financial Services Group, has a long record of service to the Republican Party. He serves as Chairman of the Texas Industrial Development Corporation, a position to which he was appointed by Texas Governor Rick Perry. As a volunteer intern, Parker served in the White House under President George H.W. Bush at the direction of C. Boyden Gray, the former Counsel to the President. He has also served in a volunteer capacity at the United States Commerce Department in London, England.
Parker has been involved in Republican grassroots efforts and campaigns across Texas for over 17 years. In 2004, he led a team of Texans to campaign for President George W. Bush in the battleground state of Ohio and in 2000 campaigned in Arkansas for then-Governor George W. Bush. He was President of the College Republicans at the University of Dallas, State Chairman of the College Republicans of Texas, State Collegiate Chairman of the Bush/Quayle campaign in Texas, State Collegiate Chairman of Victory 1992 and co-founded the Denton County Young Republicans. Parker earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Philosophy from the University of Dallas, where he served as Student Body President, and a Master's Degree from the London School of Economics. He lives in Flower Mound with his wife Beth, and their daughters Lauren and Ashley.
