Back to School is in the Air

August is a time when our summer vacations wind down and back to school preparations are being made. Like many other proud parents in our community, I am excited to see this school year start and for my daughters to continue their education. As a member of the Texas Legislature, I place great emphasis on improving educational opportunities for all Texans. During the recently concluded legislative session, significant progress was made on educational issues and I look forward to addressing the additional work required in the years to come.


Legislature Passes Parker’s Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Legislation

During the 81st Legislative Session, the Texas House of Representatives unanimously passed Rep. Tan Parker’s House Bill 1041, also known as Jenna’s Law. Jenna’s Law, supported by numerous children’s advocacy groups across the state, directs school districts to include a child sexual abuse preventive policy in their school handbook and district improvement plan.


C-17 Airlifter: Good for America, Good for Texas

As a member of the Texas Legislature, I fully understand and appreciate the fiscal and political challenges facing the President and Congress in addressing our nation’s defense. My hope is that the Senate Appropriators will consider the value that the C-17 brings to our nation and will continue to support this project that is so important to our national security, as well as our state and our local economic prosperity.
