Austin, TX – Yesterday Representative Tan Parker filed an amendment to the General Appropriations Act to further fund border security measures and to deploy more Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers along the Texas/Mexico border. Parker enlisted the support of Representative Corbin Van Arsdale along with other senior Appropriations Committee members in getting his policy considered.
"I am proud of the part I played in this effort to further secure our border from illegal activity that endangers the well being of all Texas citizens," Parker said.
Austin, TX – Today Representative Tan Parker offered his opinion on Governor Rick Perry's Executive Order RP65 to require the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination for school aged girls entering the sixth grade.
"I do commend the Governor on taking initiative to fight a leading cause of cancer among women," Parker stated. "However, given the sensitive nature of a disease that is transmitted solely through sexual activity, I believe this mandate infringes on the privacy and rights of families to address the issue as they see fit, and therefore I can not support this action."
Under the Governor's plan, all school age girls entering the sixth grade will be required to receive the three part vaccination starting in September of 2008. Parents wishing not to have the shots administered to their daughters can opt out through a series of online applications, however, Parker believes that is the wrong approach.
After an hour and a half meeting with each candidate over the weekend, Ricky Grunden announced his endorsement of Tan Parker for State Representative, District 63.
“I wanted to determine for myself which of the two run-off candidates would best serve District 63 and which candidate would most closely represent the issues that are important to my supporters and therefore most important to me”, said Grunden. “...Tan Parker won me over with his genuine enthusiasm for the people of District 63, both north and south, his exposure to the Republican Party and his commitment to free enterprise, economic development, and low taxes. We also aligned on education reform in the area of merit based pay for teachers and introducing competition into schools through school choice.”
Denton County businessman and Republican leader Tan Parker was today endorsed by Former Highland Village Mayor Bill Lawrence in the April 11 run-off for House District 63 State Representative. Lawrence endorsed Parker as the candidate best able to reform and strengthen public education.
“Now that we are down to the runoff, there's only one solid conservative with a record of Republican leadership, and that's Tan Parker. Today, I'm proud to offer my wholehearted endorsement of Tan and encourage my supporters to vote for him on April 11. He ran a strong, grass-roots campaign based on reducing property taxes, reforming public education, and standing firm for faith and family. I know we can trust Tan to stay true to his conservative convictions and represent all areas of the district in Austin,” Denny said in making the endorsement.
